The Advanced Diploma in Arabic Studies is a comprehensive program designed for individuals seeking an in-depth understanding of the Arabic language, literature, culture, and history.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Have completed the Higher Certificate in Arabic Studies from MIC or its equivalent
  • Have completed the Diploma in Islamic Studies from MIC or ots equivalent.

EXEMPTIONS

  • Exemptions can be granted based on prior undertaking of Islamic studies/modules.
  • Decision to grant exemption is based on complete submission of proof of prior studies.

The below modules will be exempted for those with Higher Certificate in Arabic Studies or its equivalent

Arabic Syntax (Nahu)

This study is shaped to provide a solid understanding of the role of the subject in Arabic sentence structure. They will learn how the subject introduces the main idea of a sentence and how it interacts with the verb in terms of gender, number, and person agreement. Students will gain the skills to identify and use subjects correctly in both nominal and verbal sentences, ensuring grammatical accuracy and clarity in their Arabic communication.

Arabic Morphology (Sarf)

A study that provides thorough understanding of Sarf, the study of Arabic morphology. They will learn how words are derived from root letters and how different patterns (measures) are applied to form various word types, including nouns, verbs, and adjectives. Students will also understand how to conjugate verbs according to tense, mood, and aspect, and how to properly form and use different word forms in context. This knowledge will allow students to recognize and construct words accurately, enhancing their overall comprehension and fluency in Arabic.

Arabic Rhetoric (Balaghah)

The art of Arabic rhetoric. Students will learn the key principles of eloquence, including the use of figures of speech, metaphor, and stylistic devices to enhance meaning and impact. Students will explore how to express ideas clearly and powerfully through proper word choice, sentence structure, and tone. This module will equip students with the skills to appreciate and analyze the beauty of classical and modern Arabic literature, enabling them to communicate with greater depth and persuasion.

Comprehension (Insha')

Students will learn how to understand and analyze written texts, identify key ideas, and extract detailed information. Students will practice reading passages of varying difficulty, improving their ability to interpret meaning, context, and nuances in the language. This course will also help students strengthen their vocabulary and sentence structure knowledge, allowing them to approach Arabic texts with confidence and accuracy.

The below modules will be exempted for those with Certificate in Arabic Studies or its equivalent

Intro to Arabic Language

This module prepares students to be conversant in the language of the Quran. It covers from the basic vocabulary to the structures of the Arabic language so as to allow learners to develop basic listening, reading and comprehension skills.

Qiraah/Kitabah

A detailed study into the sounds of each letter in the Arabic language so as to expose learners with the correct pronunciation of each letter. Learners will learn the art of ‘khat’ – Arabic writing in its various forms.

Intro to Arabic Grammar

Learners will learn the science behind the language as they are exposed to the rules & structures shaping the composition of sentences & words. It provides the skeleton that allows the language to be expressed beautifully.

Ta’bir

Language, culture, and religion are intricately interconnected that it’s almost impossible to understand one without the other. This module allows learners to delve into the rich cultural and Islamic texts by honing their ability to form coherent sentences as a mode of expression

Tajweed

This is a comprehensive module to master the essential phonetic rules for proper Quranic recitation. Besides developing Quranic fluency, students will learn the intricacies of tajweed rules, its pronunciation techniques and rhythmic patterns, encouraging them to recite the Quran with precision and beauty.

Intro to Arabic Literature

Arabic literature is the gateway to fully appreciate Quran, Hadith and other important Islamic text like sermons and letters written by the Prophet’s companions. It allows learners to have a deeper understanding of classical text and deepens your appreciation of the language.
