Advanced Diploma in Islamic Studies (Shariah)
The Advanced Diploma in Islamic Studies (Shariah) is a comprehensive program designed for individuals seeking a deep and thorough understanding of Islamic law. This program explores the principles, sources, and application of Shariah, focusing on its role in regulating personal, social, economic, and legal matters within Islamic societies. Students will study the foundational texts, including the Qur’an, Hadith, and the work of classical Islamic jurists, while also gaining insights into modern issues faced in the context of Shariah.
The curriculum covers various areas, including family law, finance, criminal law, and ethics, providing students with the tools to analyze and interpret Shariah in today’s world. Upon completion of this diploma, students will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to contribute to the fields of legal scholarship, Islamic jurisprudence, and ethical practices in accordance with Shariah principles.

- Have completed the Diploma in Islamic Studies from MIC or its equivalent.

- Exemptions can be granted based on prior undertaking of Islamic studies/modules.
- Decision to grant exemption is based on complete submission of proof of prior studies.

MODULES
Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence
An in-depth study into the main areas of Islamic jurisprudence, the history, social and religious factors in the development of Islamic legal schools. This module will discuss the primary & supplementary sources of Islamic law and the methodology of Islamic law making. It will also explore the practice of ijtihad (independent legal deduction) and the arguments and propositions used in legal rulings (fatwas).
Jurisprudence of Marriage
This module covers the Islamic laws and legislation pertaining to marriage and its related issues such as divorce and maintenance. It will analyze the four conditions of marriage in Islam and discuss the roles and rights of each member of the family. This module also explore certain case studies in Islamic marriage and family to provide insight on the issues and legal implications in navigating and adhering to the fiqh of marriage in the light of Quran and Sunnah.
Jurisprudence of Inheritance
This module is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the principles and practical application of inheritance laws in Islamic jurisprudence. It will explore the foundations of inheritance as derived from the Qur’an and the Sunnah, examine various scenarios to navigate sensitive issues to attain practical knowledge and skills necessary for the correct calculation and distribution of inheritance shares in accordance with the Islamic law
History of Islamic Legislation
This module aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the historical formation, development and debate concerning Shariah. In doing so, it will look into the origins and evolutions of Islamic law from the pre-Islamic, classical schools of jurisprudence to the post-Islamic era. It will also touch on the emergence of Islamic legal ethic and the formation of the major legal schools, their key features and identity.

Islamic Worldview
A detailed exploration into Islam through its sources, practices, and presence in the contemporary world. It focuses on the meaning and implications of embracing Islamic worldview, one that encompasses the totality of life in comparison with other ideologies such as secularism.
Jurisprudence Of Transaction
An informative study into the fundamental concepts of Islamic Law related to business and financial transaction and contract. It will also look into the concepts of property and ownership, as well as guidelines on lease, mortgage and usury or riba in the Islamic context.
Sciences Of Prophetic Tradition
This module aims to educate on the Science of Prophetic Traditions (Hadith), its definition, meaning, significance and its legal authority within the Islamic Law. It will explore the historical development of the science of revelation and the role played by the narrators.
History Of The Caliphs
A comprehensive study that brings you into the life of the first four leaders in Islam, collectively known as the Rightly Guided Caliphs. It explore various topics such as the opposition of rebels against them, the final altercations and most importantly, the incredible morals and timeless advice of these pious leaders.
Quranic Sciences
An in-depth look into the science of Divine revelation – the Quran, the context of its revelation, its preservation, method of collection and compilation and its transmission from generation to generation. It will dive into the Quran’s themes, messages, rhetorical features and philosophical nuances and most importantly its miracles.
Arabic Language Level 3
This module prepares students to be confident in reading, writing and conversing in the Arabic language. It introduces students to literature texts in Arabic to strengthen comprehension skills. This module also looks at syntax, new verb forms and advanced Arabic grammar to elevate one’s skills in the Arabic Language.
The below modules will be exempted for those with Higher Certificate in Islamic Studies or its equivalent
Islamic Ethics
A comprehensive study on the key concepts, theoretical principles and doctrines of ethics, manners and morality and its practical wisdom. Students will be exposed to the philosophical discourse of ethics from the Quran, Hadith and Muslim thinkers, leading them on a journey of self-reflection on their moral conduct, virtue, humanism and their pursuit of personal spiritual development as a Muslim.
Jurisprudence Of Worship II
A detailed study to cultivate a deep understanding of jurisprudence, focusing on zakat, Hajj and Umrah and its etiquettes. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding on the obligations, eligibility and detailed guidance on the rules pertaining to Zakat and Haj. The module will also explore the adab and etiquettes when visiting sacred places like the Makam Rasulullah.
Tafseer
This module involves a close study of the Quran, its interpretation, messages, rhetorical features and philosophical nuances. It hopes to equip students with a firm foundational grasp of the Quran as Tafseer is the key to opening the door of understanding of the Holy Book. It is only through this understanding that we embody the true value of Islam and strengthen our connection to our Creator.
Arabic Language Level 2
This module is to build up the students’ proficiency in the Arabic language by expanding their vocabulary and its context use. It also introduces students to the technical aspect of the language by exposing them to more grammatical structures to hone their language skills.
The below modules will be exempted for those with Certificate in Islamic Studies or its equivalent
Islamic Creed
An in-depth study of the fundamental pillars of Islamic faith, covering its foundations, historical development, and contemporary debates and issues. It explores the fundamental beliefs and principles of aqeedah, the existence and attributes of Allah, the prophethood of Muhammad, the belief in angels and the Day of Judgment.
Jurisprudence Of Worship I
A detailed study to cultivate a deep understanding of jurisprudence, focusing on purification, prayer and fasting. Students will gain a more nuanced comprehension of issues related to wudhu, ghusl, the different aspects of prayer and the rulings of fasting, enabling them to perform worship in the best manner
Hadith Nabawi
An in-depth study into Imam Nawawi’s time-tested 40 Hadiths. In this module, students will gain insight into Hadith’s historical context and linguistic nuances. The module also explains the essence of Prophetic wisdom and guidance from these hadiths by discussing the nature of revelation and its application in our daily lives.
Biography Of The Prophet
Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, is a beacon of wisdom and guidance to Muslim. This module is designed to allow students to know the Prophet’s life from birth to his demise. Students will explore key events in the Prophet’s life, focusing on the social, political and religious roles that he exemplified as a source of inspiration.
Tajweed
This is a comprehensive module to master the essential phonetic rules for proper Quranic recitation. Besides developing Quranic fluency, students will learn the intricacies of tajweed rules, its pronunciation techniques and rhythmic patterns, encouraging them to recite the Quran with precision and beauty.
Arabic Language Level 1
This module is preparing students to be conversant in the language of the Quran. It covers from the basic vocabulary to the grammatical structures of the Arabic language. It allows students to develop listening, comprehension, writing, reading and most importantly effective communication skills.
